Brandmir, or "Brand," as he is more commonly called, is the bastard son of Boromir, and the grand-nephew of Imrahil of Dol Amroth. He is the lord of an estate in Belfalas that had come into his father's family through Finduilas's marriage to Denethor, and he is a Swan Knight.
Early life[]
Brandmir was two years old when his mother Nellith married Jacyn Carter. Whether Jacyn showed him any affection in the early days is unknown. However, as he grew older, probably about the age of seven, he began to try to win his step-father's affection, an effort which he ultimately realized was futile. Jacyn had him working at various jobs from the time he was eight years old, culminating with his employment as a stable boy at a prosperous upper-class inn in Pelargir, the Vine and Sheaf.
Jacyn was a heavy-handed man and often struck Brandmir, particularly when the boy showed any defiance or spirit. Whether he struck Nellith or his own children is never directly stated, though he does exhibit considerable care and concern for his ailing wife in Passages.
Later career[]
Through dint of hard work and not a little of his father's ability with a sword, Brandmir ultimately becomes a Swan Knight. He achieves a position of authority, most likely a captain of one of the Swan Knight companies, because it is stated in The Recall that The day after his foster-father had fallen in battle, Brandmir had taken up Andrahar’s Mahiran scimitar and done such damage upon the insurgents that he had almost single-handedly brought about an end to the conflict as well as winning himself a place in local legend as an object of fear and terror.
Aragorn also gives him a seat on the King's Council, which he is holding during the events of The Recall.
