Akilah is a mathematician and astronomer.

In the early years of the Fourth Age, Harad 's ambassador to Gondor brought his daughter, Akilah, with him to the court at Minas Tirith . Akilah felt isolated from most of the other court women, having little in common with them.

But her treatise on astronomy, and particularly her work on the movements of binary stars, attracted the notice of Amrothos of Dol Amroth , who initially disagreed with her findings. She was able to convince him of the soundness of her mathematics, and she and the youngest prince of Dol Amroth began a friendship based on their shared interests, including different musical systems.

Their friendship was "the scandal of the summer."[1]
